Welcome to the Senior Section of Minchinhampton Old Course
The Seniors Section of Minchinhampton Old Course Golf Club must be one of the friendliest in the County - we're very serious about our golf but there is a lot of good natured banter and laughter! We have a thriving Seniors Section with members ranging in age from 55 to over 80 with handicaps from 5 to 28 and above.
We have an extensive and varied diary of events throughout the year, although paramount to all our social golf is a spirit of enjoyment and encouragement to each other in the way we play. Regular events during the year include a Seniors Open and Am/Am - both highly regarded and always heavily subscribed - Charity days, various Away days and fixtures with our Ladies Section. The year is topped off with a Christmas lunch and auction for charity.
Thursday morning is our competition day. We play handicap qualifying Medal and Stableford rounds roughly fortnightly, and formats such as Texas scrambles, Greensomes, Bowmaker, Medford and Bogey competitions on the other Thursdays. We sign up to competitions online (a very simple process and help is always available). These are then randomly drawn to play with others across the handicap divisions and this proves a very good way of mixing up all our players and meeting other people - particularly helpful for new members.
We also run a thriving Seniors team which plays nearly 30 "friendly" Club matches between March and September home and away, mostly on Tuesdays. All Seniors are eligible to play and last year nearly 40 members played for the team. Prior to the match we meet for a coffee and team bonding, greet our opposition, have an inspirational talk from the Captain (often reduced to about 3 words) and then go and play a competitive round in our four-balls. Drinks, a good meal, Captains' speeches, jokes and announcement of the match result, end what is always an enjoyable afternoon. It is an excellent way to play on other clubs' courses and meet up with old/new friends.
We have an active and experienced Seniors Committee who seek to ensure that all runs smoothly and would encourage anyone over the age of 55 to join our Seniors Section - you can do so easily by talking to anyone in the Golf shop/Office.
